House Rules

We don’t call it a “loose” D&D podcast for nothing. Not every by-the-book rule is perfect for every table, so before you scream, “They did that wrong!” check out our list of house rules to see the quirks of our campaign. (and if it’s still wrong after that, then you can scream).

Critical hits

On a critical hit, the player rolls their usual damage die (including any class buffs to critical hits, such as brutal critical, and any applicable bonuses) and then doubles that number to calculate the total damage

infectious fury

On a successful use of Infectious Fury, instead of the infected enemy using their reaction, they use their entire next turn to make a melee attack against another creature of the infecting player’s choice.

illusory script

Instead of simply hiding or encoding messages into existing pieces of writing, on a successful roll (at the dm’s discretion), illusory script can be used to create fake or forged documents.

potions

Potions are treated as a bonus action, not an action, because at the end of the day, it’s just more fun that way. Besides, a pirate knows how to put it back quickly.

rule of cool

At the end of the day, the point of our podcast was never to count arrows or argue over technicalities. The point is to craft an engaging and impactful story that people would love listening to as much as we loved playing it. Sometimes our dm makes a call that may not adhere to the fine print, but it serves the character or story at large. If a player can make a cool enough argument, anything is possible!
